Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru paid tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle ahead of their IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
Players from both teams wore black armbands, while a minute's silence was observed by everyone inside the stadium before the start of play. The iconic playback singer passed away in the city on Sunday at the age of 92.
Bhosle died at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital after suffering multi-organ failure following a brief illness linked to a chest infection and exhaustion. Her last rites are scheduled to be held on Monday at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Bhosle's passing has triggered tributes across the sporting fraternity, reflecting her cultural influence beyond music.
Her connection to cricket extended beyond fandom. She had previously collaborated with former Australia cricketer Brett Lee on the song You're the One for Me, while her family maintained close links with the sport.
