The Indian women's cricket team that won the ICC ODI World Cup last November has been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards. The team has been nominated in the category of Team of the Year Award. India beat South Africa by 52 runs in the final played at Navi Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium to win its first-ever piece of ICC silverware.
Other teams that have been nominated in the same category are the England women's football team, Paris Saint-Germain, European Ryder Cup Team, McLaren F1 team, and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Here's a look at previous awards and nominations from India for the Laureus World Sports Awards:
1. In 2019, wrestler Vinesh Phogat was shortlisted for Laureus Comeback of the Year. The star wrestler suffered a near career-ending injury at the 2016 Olympics that made her sit out of wrestling for a long time. After a lengthy rehab, Phogat came back to wrestling and clinched a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Championships, followed by gold medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
2. In 2020, Sachin Tendulkar won the Laureus Sporting Moment Award (2000-2020). The legendary cricketer won the award for his victory lap at the Wankhede Stadium after India clinched the 2011 ODI World Cup. Fans across the globe were invited to vote for this award, making it a special tribute from sports lovers worldwide.
3. In 2022, Neeraj Chopra was nominated for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award. Chopra's nomination came after a series of medal-winning performances in the previous years, including a gold medal at the Olympics, and gold medals at the 2018 Asian Games and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
4. In 2025, cricketer Rishabh Pant was shortlisted for the Laureus Comeback of the Year. Pant's nomination was a recognition of his return to cricket after a deadly car accident that left him bedridden for many months. The cricketer underwent multiple surgeries during the recovery phase. After his comeback to cricket, he featured in India's T20 World Cup winning squad and became the Indian Premier League's most expensive player at Rs. 27 crore.

The annual Laureus World Sports Awards recognise the best and the most inspirational sporting triumphs of the year and showcases the work of Laureus Sport for Good.
The nominees were selected by a vote from the 1,300 members of the Laureus global media panel. The award winners will be decided by members of the Laureus World Sports Academy and announced at a gala event in Madrid, Spain, on April 20, according to reports.
