The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced that it will conduct the remainder of the 2021 IPL in September and October this year in the United Arab Emirates.

The IPL which commenced on April 9, was postponed on May 4 after multiple players and staff tested positive for Covid-19.

In a media release issued on Saturday, the BCCI said the decision to shift the IPL to the UAE was owing to the monsoon season in India which usually stretches between June and early October.

The decision was taken at a virtual Special General Meeting where members unanimously agreed to resume the beloved tournament. However, the exact dates of the tournament are yet to be announced.

The 2020 IPL was held in the UAE in October and November, after it was rescheduled from the annual April-May cycle following the first wave of Covid-19 infections in India and the nationwide lockdown.

The BCCI also decided to "seek an extension" from the International Cricket Council "to take an appropriate call" on hosting the men's T20 World Cup, originally scheduled in India between mid-October and November 14.
