Mohan Charan Majhi Named New Chief Minister Of Odisha

The BJP ended the Naveen Patnaik led-Biju Janata Dal's longstanding dominance, securing 78 out of the state's 147 assembly seats on June 4.

Tribal leader Mohan Charan Majhi is all set to become the next Chief Minister of Odisha, the decision was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, after the first Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Party meeting on Tuesday.

KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida will serve the state as Deputy Chief Minister, the Defence Minister said in his post.

The BJP ended the Naveen Patnaik led-Biju Janata Dal's longstanding dominance, securing 78 out of the state's 147 assembly seats on June 4. It marked an end to Patnaik's 24-year tenure as Odisha's chief minister, and a new beginning in the state's political landscape.

"Delighted to announce that Shri Mohan Charan Majhi has been elected unanimously as the leader of Odisha BJP Legislature Party. He is a young and dynamic party karyakarta who will take the state forward on road to progress and prosperity as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Many congratulations to him," Singh wrote, congratulating the new Odisha CM.
