(Bloomberg) -- Republican Tony Gonzales won the U.S. House race for Texas's 23rd district, the Associated Press projected, in a victory over Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones.
Gonzales, a Navy veteran, fills a seat left vacant by the retirement of Republican Will Hurd. The largely Hispanic district on the Mexican border voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
