Bureaucratic Reshuffle: Anil Swarup Replaced By Susheel Kumar As Coal Secretary

Centre changes role of 19 new secretaries in a top-level reshuffle.

In a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle by the Centre on Wednesday, as many as 19 secretaries have seen their roles change, according to a statement by the Government of India.

Coal Secretary Anil Swarup was appointed as secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy. He will be replaced by Susheel Kumar who was earlier the secretary in the Department of Border Management in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Kumar’s position will now be held by Sanjeevanee Kutty who was special secretary and financial adviser in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Raghav Chandra, earlier the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has been appointed as secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes. Yudhvir Singh Malik, who will replace Chandra as the chairman of NHAI, will also act as the special secretary of NITI Aayog.

Rajeev Kapoor has been appointed as secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, ending his stint as the director of Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration.

Seema Bahuguna has been appointed as the secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises in the Ministry of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises. She was previously special secretary and financial adviser in the Department of Rural Development.

KP Krishnan has been appointed as secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Other changes include:

  • Ravi Yadav, previously the secretary in the Department of Sports, has been appointed as the secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
  • Ameising Luikham is now the officer on special duty in the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Luikham was earlier the secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises.
  • Anoop Kumar Srivastava has been appointed as the officer on special duty in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Srivastava was earlier the secretary in the Department of Official Language in the Ministry of Home Affairs and will be replace by Prabhas Kumar Jha.
  • NS Kang is now the secretary in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Asha Ram Sihag has been named as the secretary of Coordination and Public Greviances in the Cabinet Secretariat.
  • Kewal Kumar Sharma has been appointed as the officer on special duty in the Department of Higher Education.
  • Bharti S Sihag, previously the special secretary and financial adviser in the Ministry of Steel, has been appointed as the officer on special duty in the Department of Fertilisers.
  • Preeti Sudan is the new secretary in the Department of Food and Public Distribution.
