Lego Gives Staff Time Off, Bigger Bonuses as Sales Boom

Lego A/S, the toymaker whose colorful building bricks are a staple for children in 130 countries, is giving its employees bigger bonuses and more vacation days as 2021 turns out to be “extraordinary.”

More than 20,000 employees will get three more days off and annual bonuses will get a top-up in April, said Benjamin Hjorth, a spokesman at the Billund, Denmark-based company.

The extra perks come just two months after Lego reported operating profit doubled for the first half of 2021, as the toymaker grew faster than rivals in its largest markets. This year “has been an extraordinary year,” and the company's owners want to acknowledge employees' contribution, Hjorth said. Jyllands-Posten was the first to report the story earlier Monday.

The closely held company has a history of upping bonuses to employees working in its retail stores, manufacturing plants and offices. Back in 2015, staff got an extra month's salary. Hjorth declined to say how big this year's will be.
