- The new CPI series with 2024 base year launches on Thursday, updating consumption data
- Q3 earnings season ends with major firms like Titan, HUL, ONGC, and IRCTC reporting results
- Aye Finances and Fractal Analytics plan IPOs worth Rs 1,010 crore and Rs 2,833.9 crore respectively
The coming week is set to be significant for India's economy and financial markets, marked by key data releases, corporate earnings, IPO activity, and parliamentary developments. A major highlight is the launch of the new Consumer Price Index (CPI) series with a 2024 base year on Thursday. This update replaces the existing 2012 base year, which no longer reflects current consumption patterns.
This week also marks the final stretch of the Q3 earnings season, with several major companies—including BSE, Titan, Mahindra & Mahindra, Hindustan Unilever, ONGC, Coal India, and IRCTC—set to report their December-quarter results.
IPO activity is picking up after a lull. Aye Finance's Rs 1,010 crore IPO opens on Monday, while Fractal Analytics plans a Rs 2,833.9 crore issue, combining fresh equity and offers for sale.
Meanwhile, the first phase of Parliament's Budget Session resumes and concludes on Friday, with continued discussion on the Union Budget for FY27 amid ongoing political disruptions.

New CPI Series
The new series of the Consumer Price Index-based inflation with a base year of 2024 will be released on Thursday, Feb. 12. A base year, as defined by Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI), serves as the benchmark period used to assess how economic indicators change over time. It determines the weighting of goods and services in the consumption basket, which forms the basis for computing CPI inflation.
India currently uses and 2012 base year for CPI, which no longer accurately represent the present structure of the economy and therefore need updating.
The upcoming CPI 2024 series introduces a significantly updated consumption basket, expanding it from 299 to 358 items, with widened market coverage and the inclusion of 12 online markets to capture prices from e‑commerce platforms and digital services such as airfares and OTT subscriptions. These updates reflect modern consumer behaviour, including the rising share of online purchases, and incorporate advanced price‑collection methods using digital and administrative data.
