Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Mumbai, Neighbouring Districts For May 13-14
A yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and other Maharashtra districts on May 13 and 14, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds predicted.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and several neighbouring districts for both May 13 and 14. The forecast predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour at isolated places.
The IMD has highlighted the potential for thunderstorm activity in Mumbai, with possible rainfall and gusty winds affecting various areas, including suburban regions.
The weather forecast for Thane and Raigad also indicates thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rainfall and strong winds at isolated locations on both days. A yellow alert has been issued for these districts as well. Given the possibility of weather-related disruptions, residents are urged to stay updated on weather advisories, the weather agency suggested.
Maharashtra Weather Update
The coastal districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are expected to experience stronger winds, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Light to moderate rainfall is expected at isolated locations, and a yellow alert has been issued for both days. The weather forecast for Nashik on May 13 and 14 indicates thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds.
For Pune, Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli, the weather agency predicts thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and winds of 50 to 60 km per hour on May 13. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these districts. On May 14, weather conditions will ease slightly, with winds expected to range from 40 to 50 km per hour. The weather agency has issued a yellow alert for these areas for Wednesday.
Nagpur is expected to experience thunderstorms and lightning on May 14, accompanied by gusty winds. A yellow alert has been issued for the city.
Advancing Southwest Monsoon
Meanwhile, the IMD has reported ongoing rainfall activity in the Nicobar Islands, with isolated heavy rainfall observed in the past 24 hours. This pattern is expected to continue over the next 24 hours, bringing isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall to the region.
The current rainfall activity is paving the way for the advancement of the southwest monsoon. Conditions are favourable for the monsoon to reach parts of the Andaman Sea, South Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by May 13, the IMD said in its bulletin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
Further progression of monsoon is expected across the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, and more parts of the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, according to the weather agency.
