Mock Drill Across Border Districts Of Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir On Thursday
Mock drills were last conducted in India on May 7, amid the heightened tensions with Pakistan.
India will conduct a full-scale civil defence mock drill on Thursday across all designated civil defence towns and districts of Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jammu Kashmir, NDTV reported on Wednesday.
This will be the second full-scale civil defence mock drill in May, after a countrywide mock drill was conducted on May 7 across all designated Civil Defence towns and districts since 1971. The exercise was done weeks after a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead and heightened the focus on emergency preparedness.
Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs had asked all states to conduct these mock drills given the "new and complex threats" following the Pahalgam terror attack.
According to the previous notification, the review will include conducting mock drills on air-raid warning sirens, training civilians to protect themselves in the event of a 'hostile attack,' and cleaning bunkers and trenches.
The measures to be taken during the mock drills include the operationalisation of air-raid warning sirens, training civilians on civil-defence aspects to protect themselves in the event of a 'hostile attack' and cleaning bunkers and trenches, according to a home ministry communication.
The other measures are provisions for crash-blackout measures, early camouflaging of vital plants and installations and updating and rehearsing evacuation plans.
