Manipur: Four Militants Arrested, Three Others Held With 100 Kg ‘World Is Yours’ Tablets

Police seize a pistol with magazine, 33 live rounds, five SIM cards, and six mobile phones from PLA member arrested from Imphal West.

Police said on Friday that they have arrested four militants of different Imphal Valley-based proscribed outfits. The militants were captured in separate operations.

Thokchom Ongbi Anita Devi (46), a member of the People's Liberation Army was arrested from her house in Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong in Imphal West district on Thursday, they said. The various items that the police seized during Devi’s arrest included a pistol with a magazine, 33 live rounds, five SIM cards, and six mobile phones.

Another arrest was of Moirangtham Ricky Singh (22) from Khurai Chairenthong in Imphal East district. A member of the proscribed United National Liberation Front, Singh was taken into custody near the India-Myanmar border in Tenugopal district.

The third person, identified as Laishram Bishorjit Meitei (33), was arrested from Sekmaijin Ningolkhong in Kakching district. An active cadre of the banned People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak, Laishram Bishorjit Meitei has been involved in extorting local businesses.

The arrests also involved a 54-year-old man, Yumnam Premjit Meitei. He was held for extorting money from vehicles transporting timber, police said. Yumnam Premjit Meitei, who has been associated with the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba), was arrested from a furniture shop at Kakwa in Imphal West district.

Meanwhile, according to a PTI report, Manipur MP A Bimol Akoijam has claimed that his questions relating to agreements the government has signed with insurgent groups in the northeastern states was “removed” from the list of starred questions scheduled for March 11, 2025.

Police also arrested three perosn with over 100 kg of WY tablets—also known as—from Manipur's Thoubal district on Friday.

The seizure was made by a joint team of the state police and the Narcotics Control Bureau from near Lilong police station, they said.

Of the arrested, two belong to Assam, police added.

The accused were identified as Amaldas Xalxo of Assam's Golaghat, Mahedi Alom of Assam's Morigaon, and Mohammad Khurshid of Lilong Hangamthabi in Thoubal. During the opreation, a truck as well as a four-wheeler were seized, police said.
