Financial markets in Japan, China, South Korea, and Australia are closed on Wednesday on account of New Year's Day.

US stock markets declined for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 ended 0.07% and 0.43% down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.90% down.

The Brent crude was trading 0.34% higher at $74.64 a barrel as of 6:26 a.m.. The Bloomberg spot gold was 0.69% higher at $2,624.50 an ounce.

The GIFT Nifty was 0.15% or 35 points down at 23,734.50.

The benchmark indices ended on a muted note on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 ended flat at 23,644.80, and the Sensex ended 0.14% or 109.12 points lower at 78,139.01.

The foreign portfolio investors offloaded stocks worth approximately Rs 4,645.20 crore on Tuesday, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange. The DIIs bought stocks worth Rs 4,546.70 crore. While the FPIs have been net sellers for eleven sessions, DIIs have been buyers for ten sessions.

Rupee weakened by seven paise to close at 85.61 against the US dollar.

Stocks to Watch

  • The India Cements: The company approved the appointment of Suresh Vasant Patil, as chief executive officer and Krishnagopal Ladsaria, as chief financial officer.

  • Suzlon Energy: S.Venkata Subramaniam, the chief executive officer of unit SE Forge, has resigned from the services with effect from close of business hours.

  • Jupiter Wagons: The company increased stake in its arm Jupiter Electric Mobility to 75% from 60%.

  • Dhani Services: The board approved the raising of up to Rs 406 crore through issue of convertible warrants.

  • Piramal Enterprises: The company made an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in arm Piramal Capital through subscribing to rights issue.

  • Vishnu Prakash R Punglia: The company received a contract from Hissar Builders for fabrication of FOB Steel Girder in Chakradharpur Division. The order has a total value of Rs 7.3 crore.

  • The Ramco Cements: The company has commissioned a Waste Heat Recovery Turbine of additional 2 MW capacity. With this commission, the waste heat power generating capacity of company’s Alathiyur cement plant has gone up from 2 MW to 4 MW and company's overall waste heat power generating capacity has gone up from 43.15 MW to 45.15 MW.

  • Thomas Cook: The company informed of a cyber-attack on its IT infrastructure. The company is working with cyber security experts to support the investigation, identify the extent of the issue.

  • Indo Tech Transformers: The company currently possesses installed capacity of 9,500 MVA with a utilization rate of 80–90%. The company enhanced its capacity by adding 6,500 MVA, bringing the total capacity to 16,000 MVA. This expansion is expected to be completed by March 2027.

  • GTPL Hathway: The company to acquire a balance 49% of equity stake from the existing shareholders of its arm GTPL Vision Services for a cash consideration of Rs 11.31 crore.

  • Indo Tech Transformers: The company received a letter of intent worth Rs 117 crore for supply of 13 numbers of 150 MVA transformers.

  • Jagatjit Industries: Hindustan Unilever Ltd. has decided to discontinue the agreement with Jagatjit Industries Ltd. for the manufacturing and supply of malted milk food products, viz. Boost and Horlicks, at the manufacturing unit at Jagatjit Nagar, District Kapurthala, Punjab.

  • Dynacons Systems: The company received a turnkey data centre IT Infrastructure augmentation project of Canara Bank worth Rs 280 crore.

  • Sun Pharmaceutical Industries: The company entered into an agreement with Japan-based Zaza Industrial Holdings. The company to sell 100% shares held in unit Sun Pharma Japan Technical Operations to Zaza Industrial Holdings.

  • Kalpataru Projects International: The company and its international subsidiaries received orders worth Rs 1,011 crore. The company's year-to-date inflows have now exceeded Rs 17,300 crores.

  • PNC Infratech: The company receives in-principle approval from NHAI for transfer of 100% stake held by PNC Infra Holdings in its arm to Highways Infrastructure Trust.

  • Prataap Snacks: The CCI has approved the proposed acquisition of 72.8% stake in Prataap Snacks by Authum Investment.

  • ITC: The entire shares held by the company in hotel units and joint ventures to be transferred to ITC Hotels effective from Jan. 1.

  • SJVN: The company signed MoU with the government of Bihar for the development of 1000 MW Hathidah Durgawati Pumped Storage Project and other PSPs in the state of Bihar.

  • Hazoor Multi Projects: Radheshyam Laxmanrao Mopalwar appointed as managing director for a period of five Years.

  • Indo Farm Equipment: The public issue was subscribed 17.71 times on day 1. The bids were led by non-institutional investors (28.57 times), retail investors (18.55 times) and qualified institutional investors (8.1 times).

Money Market

On the final trading day of 2024, the Indian Rupee closed weaker against the US Dollar. It weakened by seven paise to close at 85.61 against the US dollar on Tuesday.

The domestic currency opened weaker by 5 paise at 85.59, then it further declined by 9 paise from its previous close of 85.54. The day’s movement reflects ongoing pressures as the rupee continues to navigate fluctuations in global dollar strength and local demand dynamics.
