Indian equity benchmarks halted a three-session decline and closed higher, despite uncertainty around stalled US-Iran talks. The Nifty ended 0.8% higher to close above the 24,000 mark. The Sensex also gained 0.8%, rising over 600 points to settle at 77,303.
 

Stock Market Wrap: Nifty Snaps Three-Day Losing Streak; Pharma And Realty Lead

Indian equity benchmarks ended higher, snapping a three-session losing streak. The Nifty closed about 0.8% higher for the day, with Sun Pharma emerging as the top gainer on the index, up nearly 7%.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap 150 rose nearly 1.5%, ending a two-day decline, led by gains in M&M Financial Services and NTPC Green. The Nifty Smallcap 250 climbed over 1.75%, also snapping a two-day losing streak, with Cohan Lifesciences up 20%.

All sectoral indices closed in the green. Nifty Pharma led with gains of over 2.5%, followed by Nifty Realty, which rose nearly 2.5%, led by Anant Raj. Nifty IT, Auto and Bank indices ended a three-day losing streak, while FMCG, Metal, Oil and Gas, PSU Bank and Financial Services snapped two-day declines.

  • On the downside, Axis Bank fell 3.18%, the biggest laggard in the pack. AU Small Finance Bank declined 2.09%, while ICICI Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda slipped marginally.
  • The banking space showed a mixed trend, with sharp stock-specific moves on both sides.

Stock Market Live: Pharma, Realty And Media Lead Sectoral Gains

  • All NSE sectoral indices traded higher. Nifty Pharma led the gains, rising about 2.68%, followed by Nifty Realty at 2.40% and Nifty Media at 2.35%.
  • Nifty IT gained around 2.30%, while Nifty Metal rose 1.85% and Nifty Auto added 1.62%.
  • On the lower end, Financial Services, Bank and PSU Bank indices were up marginally, gaining between 0.11% and 0.43%.

International benchmark Brent crude futures for June delivery rose 2.4% to $107.88 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate futures for June delivery also gained 2.2% to $96.48.

  • Sun Pharma’s managing director told NDTV Profit that the Organon acquisition is a positive step for business growth and expects cost synergies of about $350 million over the next two to four years. He said Organon is the seventh-largest player in the biosimilars market and will help develop new opportunities in the segment.
  • Management said Sun Pharma’s innovative portfolio is growing in double digits and added that tariffs are not expected to have a meaningful impact on the bottom line. The company said it has new ideas across innovative and biosimilar segments.
  • CFO Jayashree Satagopan said Sun Pharma and Organon together generate about $2.5 billion in cash, while Sun Pharma currently holds $3.1 billion in cash. She said margins should improve as synergies materialise, adding there is no fixed timeline for debt reduction.

  • UltraTech Cement reported Q4 net profit of Rs 2,983 crore, above the estimate of Rs 2,818 crore, while revenue came in at Rs 25,799 crore, broadly in line with expectations. EBITDA stood at Rs 5,600 crore, ahead of estimates, with margin at 21.7% versus the expected 20.4%.
  • On a year-on-year basis, profit rose 20.2%, revenue increased 11.9% and EBITDA grew 21.3%, with margin improving from 20%. The company also announced a special dividend of Rs 240 per share.

IDBI Bank said the strategic disinvestment process remains confidential and it has not received any fresh update. Waaree Energies will hold a board meeting on April 29 to consider fundraising options, while Lodha Developers reduced overall debt by Rs 800 crore in Q4 to Rs 5,377 crore.

  • Sun Pharma said it will acquire New York-listed Organon in an all-cash deal with an enterprise value of $11.75 billion. The company will buy all outstanding shares of Organon for $14 a share in cash, valuing the equity at about $3.99 billion.
  • Sun Pharma said the deal supports its plan to expand its innovative medicines business and strengthen its established brands and branded generics business. The acquisition is expected to close in early 2027, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. The company said it will fund the transaction through available cash and committed bank financing.
