The benchmarks recovered most of Tuesday's losses, when both indices fell 1.16%. Brent crude dropped below levels seen before the US-Iran war, easing concerns over oil-linked risks. The NSE Nifty 50 rose 197.55 points, or 0.83%, to close at 24,021.65, while the BSE Sensex gained 790.54 points, or 1.04%, to end at 76,991.22.
Meanwhile, Brent crude futures for August fell 1.8% to $75.68 per barrel, the lowest level since Feb. 27. US West Texas Intermediate crude futures for August declined 1.7% to $71.87 per barrel. Oil prices extended losses as concerns over supply disruptions eased, while investors tracked developments around the Strait of Hormuz.
Elsewhere, Asian markets ended mostly higher on Wednesday, with South Korea's Kospi rising 3.26% to 8,471.02. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.33% to 23,412.18, while Australia's ASX 200 rose 0.24% to 8,808.40. Shanghai advanced 0.11% to 4,110.813, while Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.88% to 69,174.97.
Stock Market Highlights
Nifty closed higher, rising over 0.8% on Wednesday. InterGlobe Aviation and Adani Enterprises were among the top gainers on the index. InterGlobe Aviation rose nearly 5% to hit its highest level in seven months, while Adani Enterprises gained over 3.5%.
Broader markets underperformed the benchmarks. The Nifty Midcap 150 ended flat, with JSW Infra and KPR Mill among the top gainers, rising over 7% each. GE Vernova T&D and Hitachi Energy were among the top losers, falling over 6% each.
The Nifty Smallcap 250 closed nearly 0.2% higher. CreditAccess Grameen and Jyoti CNC Automation were among the top gainers, rising over 6% and 5%, respectively.
All sectoral indices ended in the green, except Nifty Auto and Nifty Metal. Nifty Realty was the top sectoral gainer, rising nearly 2.2%, led by Brigade Enterprises and Phoenix Mills, both up over 3.3%.
Nifty Auto was the top losing sector, falling nearly 0.5%. Bajaj Auto and Tube Investments were among the top losers in the index, declining over 2.7% each.
Nifty Pharma rose for the fifth straight session, while Nifty FMCG snapped a three-day losing streak. Nifty Metal and Nifty Auto declined for the second consecutive session.

- Trent said it has about 2% share of India’s fashion and lifestyle retail market. Since setting its 2023 ambition of 10 times revenue growth, the company said it has achieved 2.5 times revenue growth and about three times profit growth.
- The company plans to add 50 Westside stores, 200–250 Zudio stores and 25–40 Star stores annually. It sees store potential of 700 for Westside and about 5,000 for Zudio over the long term.
- Trent said store densification and higher productivity of new stores affected like-for-like growth. It is targeting early double-digit like-for-like growth over the medium term, while fine-tuning formats such as Samoh and Burnt Toast.

- JPMorgan said large-cap IT companies may not reach mid-single-digit growth and could remain around 3–4% revenue growth. Its top Overweight picks remain TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Coforge, Persistent Systems and Sagility.
