India's stock benchmarks rallied, tracking global peers, aided by broad-based gains in financial services, commodities, information technology, power and capital goods.
The Sensex and the Nifty 50 gained more than 2% each at 57,936.28 and 17,257.55, respectively, as of 1 p.m.
Of the Nifty 50 constituents, 48 stocks rose and two fell. IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd., Adani Enterprises Ltd., Hero MotoCorp Ltd. and Bajaj Finance Ltd. were the top Nifty 50 gainers.
Power Grid Corp. and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. declined the most among the index members.
The broader indices underperformed their larger peers. The mid-cap and small-cap gauges gained over 1%.
All the sectoral indices of BSE advanced. Financial services, IT, bankex, utilities, auto, capital goods, metal, power and teck gained more than 2%.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the bulls. About 2,558 stocks rose, 760 fell and 137 remained unchanged.
