FPIs Turn Net Buyers After Three Consecutive Sessions Of Selling

Foreign portfolio investors mopped up stocks worth Rs 3,664.67 crore, whereas the domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 250.99 crore.

Overseas investors turned net buyers of Indian equities after three consecutive session of selling on Tuesday, while the domestic institutional investors turned net sellers after four straight sessions of buying.

Foreign portfolio investors mopped up stocks worth Rs 3,664.67 crore and the domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 250.99 crore, according to provisional data shared by the National Stock Exchange.

FPIs had turned net sellers of Rs 11,756.25 crore on Nov. 28 after three consecutive buying sessions due to dampening sentiment from US interest rate uncertainty and Ukraine-Russia relations. It was the third largest single-day selling from foreign portfolio investors so far this year.

In November, FPIs sold stocks worth Rs 45,974.1 crore, whereas the DIIs mopped up stocks worth Rs 44,483.9 crore. In October, the FPIs had sold equities worth Rs 1.14 lakh crore and the DIIs bought equities worth Rs 1.07 lakh crore.

In 2024, foreign institutions have been net sellers of Rs 12,216 crore worth of Indian equities so far, according to data from the National Securities Depository Ltd., updated till the previous trading day.

Benchmark equity indices gained for a third consecutive session to close at their highest in around a month as global sentiment was uplifted ahead of monthly jobs data from the US and on the back of gains in heavyweights, including HDFC Bank Ltd., which hit a record high.

Intraday, Sensex hit a high of 80,949.10, its highest level since Oct. 22, and Nifty hit a high of 24,481.35 points, its highest since Nov. 7. Nifty ended 0.75% or 181.20 points up at 24457.15, its highest close since Nov. 6, and Sensex ended 0.74% or 597.67 points higher at 80845.75, its best close since Oct. 21.
