FPIs Stay Net Sellers, Sell Stocks Worth Rs 2,575 Crore

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers for the second straight session on Monday and sold stocks worth approximately Rs 2,575.1 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors stayed buyers for the 14 consecutive session and bought stocks worth Rs 5,749.7 crore.

So far in January, the FPIs have sold shares worth Rs 7,160 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.

Through 2024, overseas investors have been net sellers and have collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,292.3 crore, according to data from NSDL compiled by NDTV Profit.

On the other hand, domestic institutional investors stayed net buyers through the year and bought stocks worth Rs 5.32 lakh crore.

However, according to data from the NSDL, which is updated till the previous trading day, foreign institutions have been net buyers of Rs 2,874.4 crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2024.

In November, the foreign investors sold shares worth Rs 14,465 crore, NSDL data showed.

The benchmark indices declined the most since Oct. 3, 2024, ending lower for the second consecutive session on Monday.

The NSE Nifty 50 closed 388.70 points or 1.62% down at 23,616.05, the lowest since Dec. 20. The BSE Sensex settled 1,258.12 points or 1.59% lower at 77,964.99, the lowest since Nov. 21

During the session, the Nifty declined as much as 1.89% to 23,551.90, while the Sensex dropped 1.82% to 77,781.62.
