CareEdge Research Report

The coal industry in FY22 witnessed many interruptions due to demand-supply mismatches, rake shortages and high international coal prices. Additionally, there was a sharp increase in power demand in the last few months as the country witnessed a heat wave in most parts, which led to domestic coal production not keeping pace with the demand from power plants.

However, measures are being taken by the government to resolve these issues. As per the Ministry of Coal, the rake supply from Coal India Ltd. to the power sector has increased by 25% in the current year (till June 16, 2022) as compared to the same period of last year.
