Manufactuirng Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) (IHS Markit, seasonally adjusted (SA)) improved for most countries in July 2020.
After a smart recovery in June 2020, the index for India, however, went down from 47.2 to 46 in July 2020.
Manufacturing PMIs are in the expansionary zone (above 50) in most European economies. For a significant number of Asian economies, however, the index is in the contraction zone.
Apart from India, these include Japan, Indonesia, SouthKorea, VietNam and Philippines.
Along with India, certain Asian economies' PMI indices deteriorated in July 2020, from the previous month. These include VietNam, Philippines and Malaysia.
In contrast, some of the Asian economies including Indonesia, Japan, South Korea registered sharp improvements over June 2020.
