Salim Khan, who celebrated his 90th birthday in November last year, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Hindi cinema's writing history. As one half of the legendary Salim-Javed duo with Javed Akhtar, he reshaped mainstream storytelling in the 1970s and early 1980s by creating powerful, socially rooted narratives and unforgettable characters.

The pair co-authored the stories, characters and screenplays of several landmark films that remain milestones of Indian cinema, including Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Zanjeer (1973), Sholay (1975), Deewaar (1975), Don (1978), Trishul (1978) and Kranti (1981). Their work not only delivered major box-office successes but also introduced the iconic “angry young man” persona, redefining the Hindi film hero for an entire generation.

After the writing partnership ended, Salim Khan continued to work independently and remained a respected voice in the film fraternity. Salim Khan lives with his wife Salma Khan and his second wife, veteran actor Helen, both of whom remain central to the close-knit Khan household and his children are Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail and Alvira, and daughter Arpita.

As news of his hospitalisation spreads, members of the film industry and fans across the country are closely monitoring updates and hoping for positive news about the legendary writer's health.
