German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Thursday reported a 7% rise in total sales at 5,131 units in the first quarter of 2026 as compared to 4,775 units sold in the same period last year.

In 2025-26, the company's Indian arm Mercedes-Benz India posted its best-ever fiscal sales of 19,363 units as compared to 18,928 units in FY 24-25 with top-end vehicles (TEV) priced above Rs 1.5 crore, contributing 27% of the total sales.

Despite the impact of the West Asia war on market sentiment, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer told PTI that the company is bullish on the growth in the Indian market, eyeing another record fiscal year 2026-27.

Reflecting on the performance, Iyer said it was on the back of strong demand for top-end luxury portfolio and a sustained demand for the 'core' segment.

"One of the key factors is our top-end vehicle sales that continue to grow. The penetration of top end vehicles is now 27 per cent of the total portfolio," he said.

He further said,"Even in the first quarter of 2026 we saw a growth of 25% in in the TEV portfolio."

When asked about outlook for 2026, Iyer said the company is maintaining the projection of a single digit growth made in the start of the year.

As for the fiscal, 2026-27, he said,"Considering how we have grown, we are looking at another record year of sales."

There has been sustained demand for the C-Class, LWB E-Class sedans and GLC and GLE SUVs in the core segment, Iyer noted.

The company said battery electric vehicles now account for 20% of its total top-end retail volumes in FY 2025-26.

Top-end luxury BEVs priced above Rs 1.4 crore recorded an 85% growth in FY 2025-26, driven by strong demand for the EQS SUV, EQS Maybach SUV, and the Electric G-Class SUV.

Mercedes-Benz India said it is set to launch CLA BEV on April 24, 2026, reaffirming its long-term BEV roadmap for the Indian market.

The CLA BEV will be the first of Mercedes-Benz's next-generation software defined electric vehicles, marking the beginning of the brand's global electric product rollout in India.

On the road ahead, Iyer said the company will introduce two new AMGs for performance enthusiasts besides the CLA BEV.

"Mercedes-Benz will maintain a sharp focus on superior product content and customer aspirations, reinforcing our strategy of value-led growth over volume aspirations," he added.
