1. After Uri, Terrorists Attack Army Camp in J&K's Baramulla, 1 BSF Jawan Dead
One BSF jawan lost his life, while another was injured in exchange of fire with the terrorists on Sunday night. The militants launched a ‘Fidayeen' (suicide) attack on 46 Rashtriya Rifles Army camp in Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Terrorists tried to enter through a public park but were not able to breach the 46 RR camp
The name of martyred BSF jawan is Constable Nitin, while the injured is Constable Pulwinder. Both belong to the 40th battalion of the BSF, officials said.

2. Paris Deal Put on Fast-Track, India Ratifies Pact on Climate Change

3. India Has Never Attacked Another Country: Modi
India has neither coveted any territory nor attacked any country, but its men have made supreme sacrifices for the national cause and freedom of others, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday.
At the inauguration of the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra, Modi said:
India has not attacked anyone. It is neither hungry for land. But in the two World Wars (in which India had no direct stake), 1.5 lakh Indian soldiers had laid down their lives.He also referred to visiting as a rule memorials of Indian soldiers whenever he goes abroad.
Modi said “brain drain” – the erudite leaving India to work or settle abroad could be converted into “brain gain” if the nation started looking at the 27-million diaspora spread across the world as a strength rather than a number.

4. Jayalalithaa Being Treated for Infection, Advised More Hospital Stay

5. Will Karnataka Relax Its Cauvery Resolution?
Caught in a bind over the Supreme Court's stern directive to release Cauvery waters and the all-party meeting's decision to desist from doing so, the State will hold a special legislature session on Monday to take a call on whether to release water to the neighbouring State or protect its own standing crops in the Cauvery basin.
K'taka is facing an acute water crisis, with alarmingly low water in #Cauvery reservoirs. Providing drinking water becomes our 1st priority.
The previous session of the legislature held on 23 September had resolved to protect the storage in Cauvery reservoirs for drinking purposes. However, the Supreme Court not only asked the State to comply with its directive, but also warned that defying its order would lead to a situation wherein the State had to face the “wrath of law”.
Sources said the legislature may consider amending the 23 September resolution to provide for release of some water to protect standing crops following demand by the legislators from the Cauvery basin.

6. Sidhu's Wife Leaked Jaitley's Campaign Details to Captain, Claims Her Cousin
The first voice against former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Navjot Singh Sidhu's rider, that his forum Awaaz-e-Punjab will have no truck with the Congress till it is led by its state chief Captain Amarinder Singh, has come from within the family.
A cousin of the cricketer-turned-politician's wife, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, has claimed that BJP MLA Sidhu had “leaked” details about the campaign of BJP candidate Arun Jaitley to rival Amarinder during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections of Amritsar.
In emails made available to HT, Kamal Virk, 60, is corresponding with event organisers for Sidhu's motivational speeches and the British High Commission as Navjot Singh Sidhu's personal secretary. An email dated 29 May 2013, to the British High Commission reads:

8. Nashik Rally Today: OBCs Unite to Show Might Against Marathas
To display their show of strength, the Other Backward Castes (OBCs) in the state have joined hands to effectively counter the consolidation of Marathas across Maharashtra. On 3 October, an OBC rally will take place in Nashik, signalling a clear polarisation on the lines of caste in the state.
The decision reflects the resentment within the OBCs and Dalits following the upper caste Maratha community's growing assertion through its silent rallies under way across the state.

6. Don't Let Terrorists Breed on Your Soil: Nepal Tells Pak in Veiled Attack
Regretting that the regional environment is ‘not conducive' to host the next SAARC Summit, current Chair of the grouping Nepal on Sunday said member states must ensure their territories are not used for cross-border terrorism.
Days after India and four other countries pulled out of the 19th SAARC Summit indirectly blaming Pakistan for creating an atmosphere, which was not right for successfully holding the event, Nepal said it strongly believes that "an environment of peace and stability is essential for a meaningful regional cooperation".

9. Bihar Effects Harsher Liquor Ban Law
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar enforced the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act, 2016 in the state on Sunday, two days after the Patna High Court had struck down the previous prohibition law calling it draconian.
The new Act has harsher provisions like arrest of all adult members of a family if liquor is seized from a house. Associations, which had challenged the previous law, are likely to oppose the new Act also in the HC.
