(Bloomberg) -- New York Attorney General Letitia James said former President Donald Trump's call for his supporters to protest against prosecutors was “unethical” and “dangerous.”
In a statement on Monday, James, who is probing Trump's real estate empire, criticized the former president for remarks he made about her and other prosecutors at a rally in Texas on Saturday. He said the prosecutors are “vicious, horrible people” and called for “the biggest protest we have ever had” if they “do anything wrong or illegal.”
“Mr. Trump is now threatening my office and calling on his supporters to act to stop this investigation,” James said. “Not only is that deeply unethical, but it's disturbing and dangerous, just like his calls to overturn an election which resulted in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.”
Trump's remarks also raised concerns of Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis, who is investigating possible election-related criminal charges against Trump. She asked for FBI help in providing more security, saying his rhetoric has raised security concerns.
James on Monday also urged a judge to reject Trump's request of an injunction to put her probe temporarily on ice while his lawsuit proceeds to permanently halt it.
Trump failed to offer any evidence that he'll suffer “irreparable harm” if the civil probe isn't blocked, James said in a filing.
James has already moved to dismiss the lawsuit, and is also fighting efforts by Trump in a related state-court case to quash a subpoena for his sworn deposition. Two of his children, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump, are also fighting subpoenas from James, who started the probe in 2019.
