An IndiGo aircraft operating flight 6E925 en route from Patna to Lucknow on Wednesday was found to have sustained damage to its nose section after being struck by lightning mid-air at a height of 17,000 feet. The plane, which was carrying 104 passengers and six crew members, landed safely at Lucknow airport, eight minutes ahead of schedule. All passengers and crew members were safe. The nose of the aircraft was damaged in the incident.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation regulator, has launched a probe. The plane will be allowed to operate only after regulatory clearance. "The aircraft landed normally around 4 pm and there were no reports of any injuries. The damage was noticed by the airport team after landing, following which the IndiGo team was informed and the aircraft was declared Aircraft on Ground (AOG)," an official told PTI, citing preliminary information.

"The aircraft is undergoing a technical inspection and further necessary action. As part of the preliminary assessment, the possibility of the aircraft encountering lightning during adverse weather conditions is being examined," the airport official added. Further technical details will be shared by the airline after the completion of its investigation. Bad weather led to the unfortunate incident.The incident did not involve an emergency landing and the aircraft landed normally
"IndiGo flight 6E 625 operating from Patna to Lucknow on 07 October 2026 encountered unfavourable weather, including a hailstorm while landing, resulting in damage to the radome. The aircraft landed safely, and all customers disembarked at their destination, i.e. Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow. The relevant authorities were immediately informed. The aircraft will undergo necessary maintenance and will resume operations after securing relevant clearances," an IndiGo spokesperson said.
