Current opposition leader in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK's Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami, is leading by 1,26,865 votes against an independent candidate, Premkumar K, who is trailing with 44,427 votes, followed by DMK's Kasi C, who has secured 36,647 votes so far with 21 rounds of counting completed out of 25.
There are a total of 15 candidates in the race for the Edappadi Assembly Constituency.
This constituency is known for being the home constituency of senior AIADMK leader and former CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who won the seat for three consecutive terms in 2011, 2016, and 2021, and is now eyeing to retain power for the fourth term.
With a significant majority of more than 93,000 votes in the 2021 assembly elections, Palaniswami won this seat, demonstrating a solid base in his home turf.
According to the latest trends, actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is emerging as the new ruling party of Tamil Nadu. This will mark the end of the DMK and AIADMK's long-standing binary politics, replacing the current DMK government headed by MK Stalin.
As per trends, the AIADMK was holding on to the second position with leads in around 70 seats, indicating a steady, though not dominant, performance.
In contrast, the ruling DMK appeared to be facing a major setback, slipping to third place in the early rounds of counting.
The surprise came in the form of TVK's strong debut, with Vijay's party taking its lead to 103 seats — 15 away from the halfway majority mark.
