Harvey Delivers Record Jump in Texas' Jobless Claims: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- The number of Texans seeking unemployment benefits rose last week in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey by the most in state records dating back to 1987. Weekly applications for jobless aid jumped by 51,637 in Texas, based on preliminary unadjusted figures from the Labor Department on Thursday. The surge in the Lone Star state led to a seasonally adjusted 62,000 increase in nationwide filings, the biggest weekly advance since November 2012, when superstorm Sandy struck the Northeast U.S.
