Indore: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) Rajiv Pratap Rudy today said roll-out of Goods and Services Tax will generate five lakh jobs for computer operators.

"After the introduction of GST the country would need at least five lakh computer operators having knowledge of finance-related subjects along with information technology," Mr Rudy said here.

He was speaking to reporters after inaugurating a Skill Development Centre in Vijay Nagar area.

About the allegation that jobs are shrinking in the country, Mr Rudy said, "The focus of the government is to provide entrepreneurship skills and promote self-employment. We want our youth to become job-providers and not job-seekers."

Government expects to roll out GST from July 1. The GST Council earlier this month put 1,211 goods and 500 services in four tax slabs of 5, 12, 18, 28 per cent.

Of the 1,211 goods on which GST rates were decided, 81 per cent of goods will attract tax equal to or lower than 18 per cent, domestic brokerage Nirmal Bang said.
