Honey Exports: Government Extends Minimum Export Price Of $2,000 Per Tonne Till December 2025

The government on Monday extended the minimum export price or MEP of $2,000 per tonne on natural honey till December 2025. The measure was set to expire on Tuesday.

Exports of natural honey is free but will not be permitted if the value is below the MEP.

"Minimum export price (MEP) on Natural Honey is extended beyond 31st December, 2024 till 31st December, 2025,' the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification.

The MEP was introduced in March this year.

India is one of the top exporters of natural honey and shipped out 1,07,963 million tonne worth Rs 1,471 crore during the year financial year 2023-24, according to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. The major exporting destinations include the US, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

North East region and Maharashtra are the key areas for natural honey production.

The government has provided a total 102 projects of assistance of Rs 133.31 crore under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.
