The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has fixed call ring time for mobile phones at 30 seconds and for landline phones at 60 seconds, in case the call is neither answered nor rejected by the subscriber.
Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. has accused telecom incumbents, including Bharti Airtel Ltd. and Vodafone Idea Ltd., of "illegally" masquerading wire-line numbers as mobile numbers for "undue enrichment" and has exhorted Trai to slap "severest penalty" on them for violating regulations and licensing norms.

But On Oct. 1, Bharti Airtel said it has been compelled to cut mobile call ring time on its network to 25 seconds to plug losses and match a similar move by Reliance Jio. It rued that it was left with no choice in the absence of a firm directive from TRAI.
"The time duration of alert for an incoming voice call, which is neither answered nor rejected by the called party, shall be thirty seconds for Cellular Mobile Telephone Service and sixty seconds for Basic Telephone Service," Trai said in an amendment to quality-of-service norms for mobile phones and landlines.
Till now, there was no such limit for calls within India.
