Tata Motors Ltd.'s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) saw a 12 percent jump in monthly sales in December driven by the popularity of its new models such as the F-Pace, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Sport. The company also saw strong demand for Jaguar XFL in China, selling 55,375 vehicles during the month.
This was the best ever December sales for the JLR brand, the company said in a statement to the stock exchanges.
JLR's retail sales jumped 20 percent to 583,312 vehicles during 2016 compared to last year.
Jaguar alone clocked a 95 percent jump in retail sales, heavily outweighing the 5 percent decline in sales registered by Land Rover. Jaguar sold 16,349 units led by sale of F-Pace and high demand for XFL in China. Land Rover, on the other hand, sold 39,026 vehicles during the month on a year-on-year basis, adversely affected by the discontinuation of Defender and Discovery models.
Tata Motors, the parent company of JLR, rose 1.2 percent to Rs 503 on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the announcement.
