(Bloomberg) -- Former Fox News personality Greta Van Susteren is joining MSNBC, becoming the second host from Rupert Murdoch's industry-leading cable channel to land at NBC's news operation.
Van Susteren will host a news and analysis show on the liberal-leaning cable news network starting Jan. 9 and will be based in Washington, MSNBC said Thursday in a statement. She will be taking over the 6 p.m. slot where MSNBC previously aired “With All Due Respect,” Bloomberg's politics program. “With All Due Respect” ended on Dec. 2.
Her star power could help boost ratings at MSNBC, which surged last year during the presidential election yet remains in third place behind Fox News and CNN. Van Susteren, who left Fox News in September, was a prominent early defender of Roger Ailes after he was accused of sexual harassment. She later said it was going on without her knowledge.
Her move is the latest big change in the news landscape this week. On Tuesday, Megyn Kelly, one of the star anchors at Fox News, announced that she is making the leap to NBC News, where she will host a daytime show and a Sunday night program and contribute to coverage of breaking news, special events and future elections.
Both NBC and MSNBC are owned by Comcast Corp., the largest U.S. cable TV company.
Fox, owned by the Murdoch-controlled 21st Century Fox Inc., announced earlier Thursday that Tucker Carlson will move into the time period Kelly is vacating.
