Billionaire industrialist Anand Mahindra said on Friday the Mahindra Group is developing a differentiated counter-drone solution in India for civilian and defence applications and has provided a demonstration to the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The technology is an autonomous and integrated system with a command and control module and enables detection, tracking, identification, and mitigation of incoming drones.

"Drones are going to be the most critical pieces of hardware in both Defence and Civil Protection in the future. We must be second to none in this area. Counter-drone systems are perhaps even more important as we have witnessed in the Middle East recently," Mahindra said in a post on social media platform X.

"Mahindra is working on a differentiated counter drone solution in India for Civilian & Defence applications to protect and safeguard people, critical assets, and missions," Mahindra added.

The counter-drone system can be deployed for protection of critical infrastructure in urban areas or as an integral part of a broader multi-layered Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) solution for defence applications, the Mahindra Group chairman said.

He said the conglomerate is focussed on the transfer of technology (TOT) of best-in-class solutions and the manufacturing of radio frequency (RF)-based counter-drone solutions.

The company has given a demo of the counter-drone system to the UP Prayagraj Police, who are exploring its use for the Kumbh Mela, a major pilgrimage that will be held in January-February next year.

The Mahindra Group and Israel-based Sentrycs Ltd. in August announced a tie-up for developing anti-drone solutions in India for civilian and military applications.

India has been ramping up its anti-drone programme to deal with potential threats from unmanned aerial weapon systems. Anti-drone technologies have drawn global attention since the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel-Hamas conflict, where inexpensive drones were deployed to target and inflict damage on the opponent's civilian and military infrastructure.
