- Amazon's quick commerce orders in India are rising 25% month-on-month
- Prime members triple their shopping frequency using Amazon Now service
- Amazon Now operates in 100 Indian cities with 1,000+ micro-fulfilment centres
Amazon Inc. said orders for its quick commerce service in India are rising 25% month-on-month, pointing to early momentum as the company expands its quick delivery service in the country, according to its disclosure during the company's first-quarter earnings call held late Wednesday night India time.
"Orders are increasing 25% month-over-month, with Prime members tripling their shopping frequency once they start using it," Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy said, referring to Amazon Now, the quick-commerce service, launched in India last year.
The growth in India adds to Amazon's push to build out faster delivery options globally, with the company rolling out the service across multiple markets.
Scaling network
Amazon Now, which began operations in Bengaluru in 2025 after pilot runs earlier that year, focuses on delivering groceries and daily-use products within short time windows. The company said the service is now available to tens of millions of customers across nine countries. In India, it plans to expand to 100 cities, supported by more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres.
These facilities are designed to store inventory closer to customers and enable quicker dispatch. "Customers continue to enjoy Amazon Now, appreciating our delivery speed, value and selection," said Harsh Goyal. He added that the company is accelerating its rollout across cities.
The expansion will also allow more than 16,000 farmers to supply produce directly to customers through sellers on the platform, the company said.
Investment And Operations
Amazon has committed over Rs 2,800 crore in India to support its operations network and workforce programmes. The investment is aimed at improving delivery timelines and expanding fulfilment capacity.
The company said its micro-fulfilment model uses technology systems to manage inventory based on local demand, helping reduce delivery time.
Competitive Backdrop
Amazon's expansion comes amid rising competition in India's quick commerce market, where companies are scaling infrastructure and increasing order volumes.
Blinkit reported revenue of Rs 13,232 crore in the three months ending March and posted an operating income of Rs 37 crore. Goldman Sachs estimates Blinkit holds a 40-45% market share and expects the sector to remain concentrated among a few large players.
At least seven companies, including Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, Reliance's JioMart, Tata-backed BigBasket, Amazon and Flipkart, operate in the segment.
Earnings Context
Amazon reported revenue of $181.5 billion for the first quarter, up 17% from a year earlier. Operating income rose to $23.9 billion. Amazon Web Services posted revenue of $37.6 billion, while advertising revenue stood at $17.2 billion.
Executives said the company will continue investing in faster delivery formats, with India among the markets showing early adoption.
