(Bloomberg) -- The link holding two passenger cars together on a high-speed Acela train from Washington to New York and Boston came apart early Tuesday, forcing the 52 passengers to evacuate and take other trains to their destinations.
Acela Express train 2150 experienced the problem at 6:40 a.m., Amtrak said in an emailed statement. There were no reports of injuries.
A photo of the two cars that appeared in the New York Post shows the track bed clearly visible in the gap between them.
Amtrak is inspecting every Acela trainset and will take action to prevent a it from happening again, it said in the statement. The passenger rail service has experienced three fatal accidents since December.
