A huge shipment of over 4,00,000 KitKat bars was stolen during transit from Italy to Poland. Swiss food industry giant, Nestle, which manufactures KitKat confirmed the disappearance of the Europe-bound shipment of signature milk-chocolate-covered wafers through an official release

The truck carrying 4,13,793 units of the company's new F1 line of chocolate bars was pilfered while driving through Europe on March 26, news agency AFP reported.

“We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat, but it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate,” a spokesperson for the brand said referencing the brand's tagline.

"We are working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate the matter thoroughly. The good news: There are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected at this stage," the company's official statement on X stated.

With Easter, a peak period for confectionery sales, rapidly approaching, Nestlé cautioned the massive theft might trigger retail shortages across several regions in Europe. The loss of such significant stock threatens to disrupt supply chains and limit KitKat availability during one of the busiest shopping windows of the year.

A KitKat spokesperson, cited by AP, said that to identify the stolen goods, buyers and sellers should carefully check the batch numbers on all KitKat packaging. Any flagged items should be reported immediately to the company, which will then coordinate the necessary next steps with authorities.

Nestlé has assured it is actively monitoring the illegal resale of the shipment across Europe, noting the unique batch codes on each wrapper make the stolen goods easily identifiable and traceable in the market.
