Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on Thursday for an official visit to Thailand and Sri Lanka. PM Modi will take part in various programmes aimed at boosting India's cooperation with these nations and the BIMSTEC countries.

The visit will strengthen India's regional partnerships and reinforce its commitment to foreign policy initiatives such as ‘Neighbourhood First' and ‘Act East'.

PM Modi's Thailand Visit Schedule

At the invitation of Thailand's Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, PM Modi is traveling to Bangkok on April 3 to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit on Apr. 4.

This will be the first in-person gathering of BIMSTEC leaders since the 4th Summit in Kathmandu, Nepal, in 2018. The 5th Summit took place virtually in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in March 2022.

The 6th Summit — themed ‘BIMSTEC – Prosperous, Resilient and Open' — will focus on improving regional cooperation among member states. Leaders are expected to discuss strategies to strengthen collaboration in areas such as trade, security, connectivity, climate action and skill development.

India has played a major role in advancing BIMSTEC initiatives, particularly in strengthening security frameworks, digital infrastructure and economic partnerships.

On the bilateral front, PM Modi will meet Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on April 3 to review existing ties and explore new avenues for cooperation. India and Thailand share deep-rooted cultural, linguistic and religious bonds, making this engagement crucial for regional stability and progress.

PM Modi will also meet Maha Vajiralongkorn, the King of Thailand on April 4.
