Industrialist Harsh Goenka on Saturday praised Odisha's Babeijoda village for its cleanliness and questioned why a similar mission cannot be adopted across villages and cities. In a post on X, Goenka shared a video of Babeijoda village along with a caption highlighting its community-led cleanliness efforts.

“Babeijoda in Odisha has stayed clean, litter-free and plastic-free for the last 15 years thanks to a strong community spirit. Why not, we take this as a mission in every village and every city?” he wrote.

The video shared by Goenka shows the village streets free of litter, while the exteriors of the houses are painted in bright colours.

The post received several responses from users, with some agreeing with Goenka's suggestion, while others pointed to the challenges of implementing similar cleanliness drives in larger cities.

“Unfortunately not every member of each society are such like-minded. Love to see this. I wish I would have also been part of such a society, where people like to contribute together,” one user commented.

Another user wrote, “That community must be small. People in that community must be living with unity and good spirit. That is why it was possible there. But in big cities it won't be possible.”

“Local politics and corruption will never let this happen,” another user commented.

“It needs continuous awareness by the Panchayat or enforcement by related BDO,” another user wrote.
