Video game company Ubisoft has confirmed a major organisational restructuring, which will result in the cancellation of as many as six new projects. The list includes the much-awaited remake of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Besides six cancelled projects, the company will also close its two studios. It has planned layoffs as part of the broader restructure.
“Ubisoft has discontinued 6 games that do not meet the new enhanced quality, as well as more selective portfolio prioritisation criteria at the group level. These include Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake as well as 4 unannounced titles…,” the company announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The most high-profile cancellation remains Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. The game had already been rebooted once. It is the only name that has been officially confirmed by the company, while details about other cancelled projects remain scarce.
According to Ubisoft, three of the cancelled titles were new IPs, while one was a mobile game. Additionally, seven more projects are expected to face delays amid the restructure. While Ubisoft has not shared the titles of these projects, it is believed that one of the delayed titles is believed to be the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake, according to an IGN India report. The game was previously expected before March 31, 2026. It is now likely to be launched before 31 March 2027.
Ubisoft's Restructuring Move
Ubisoft Stockholm will be closed as part of the restructure. The studio previously worked on ‘Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora'. Mobile studio Ubisoft Halifax will also shut down. Additionally, the company will introduce restructuring to its Abu Dhabi, RedLynx and Massive studios. It has also announced a five-day work week for all staff, with limited support for remote work.
“Today's announcement introduces a radically new value-creation model: a more gamer-centric organisation, structured around creative genres, relying on integrated business units with faster, decentralised decision-making and a greater ability to quickly adapt to players' expectations. This transformation will be supported by a rightsized and more agile organisation, delivering improved structural efficiencies over time,” the company explained the restructuring push to the fans.
