Apple is gearing up to reveal iOS 19 at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, and even though the Cupertino major hasn't revealed anything yet, some information regarding the upcoming operating system update is beginning to surface.
According to reports, a significant design change is on the horizon for iOS. Apple is reportedly working to improve the UI of iOS 19, which will also be included in iPadOS 19 and macOS 16. Here are the major overhauls expected as part of iOS 19.
Design Changes
The operating system will “fundamentally change” with iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, bringing a more unified cross-platform experience. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has called the design shift the largest iOS update since iOS 7, as Apple intends to simplify navigation and control by updating the look of its buttons, apps, windows, menus, and icons.
visionOS-Style Interface Redesign
With iOS 19, Apple plans to bring more rounded, transparent design that will give apps a glassy, floating appearance reminiscent of visionOS. Leaker Jon Prosser posted mockups based on purportedly seeing photos of iOS 19, including a revamped Camera app with translucent pop-out menus. Although Gurman claims these mockups no longer represent the actual redesign, big changes are certainly on the way.
More Intelligent Siri
With iOS 19, Apple is enhancing Siri's intelligence and personalisation. By extracting pertinent data from emails, messages, and apps, and with enhanced app integration and better onscreen awareness, Siri will be better equipped to comprehend user context. Although Apple had intended to release these AI features with iOS 18, they are now anticipated to arrive with iOS 19.
Improved Apple Intelligence
Even though there is no certainty, Apple Intelligence features may be expanded to more apps, such as the rumoured playlist generation with Apple Music. iOS 19 may bring about changes wherein more on-device apps may leverage Apple Intelligence.
Live Translate Support For AirPods
With iOS 19, AirPods are expected to use Google's Live Translate to translate language during conversations in real time. The feature is currently available in iPhones through the Translate app, which Apple is also planning to upgrade to sync with AirPods.
RCS Messaging Updates
Apple is reportedly adding end-to-end encryption to Rich Communication Services messaging, which will increase the security of messaging between iPhone and Android phones. Additionally, complete Tapback support, option to edit, in-line replies, and unsend options may also be included.
