A day after a Noida-based Galgotias University was alleged of showcasing a commercial robot as its own at the flagship India AI Summit 2026, the university was asked to vacate from its pavilion on Wednesday.
The university, during an interaction with the DD News, showcased the Unitree Go2 robotic dog, an AI-powered device available on Chinese platforms, under the name "Orion" during the event in New Delhi.
After the backlash, the university released a statement stating that “it never claimed that they developed it" and said that they bought the robot as a part of their study. However, social media users pointed out another video, where a professor of the university is seen claiming it was developed at the university.
The Robot At The Centre Of The Row
The robot involved in the controversy is the Unitree Go2, developed by Chinese robotics company Unitree Robotics. The company also manufactures other different variants of robot dogs like the Unitree B2, Unitree Go2 and others. It is not an experimental prototype but a ready-to-buy commercial robotic dog sold globally, including in India.
During the summit, the robot was reportedly displayed under a different name “Orion” and described as a product developed by the university's Centre of Excellence.
