(Bloomberg) -- Power from a New Mexico wind farm will help supply four California counties beginning in 2020 under two 15-year power-purchase agreements that will contribute to the state's clean-energy goals.
Pattern Energy Group 2 LP will deliver power from the 200-megawatt Duran Mesa Wind project being built near Corona, New Mexico, to Santa Clara, Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties, according to a statement Tuesday. The contracts are for 110 megawatts to Silicon Valley Clean Energy and 90 megawatts to Monterey Bay Community Power. Some of the power will be shipped via the a 520-mile (840-kilometer) SunZia Southwest Transmission line that SouthWestern Power Group is constructing in New Mexico and Arizona.
California is on track to reach its target of getting 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020, a decade ahead of schedule.
