T20 World Cup Day 16 Top Performers: Philp Salt, David Miller Star In Big Wins For England And South Africa

Day 16 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 saw two lopsided games as co-hosts India and Sri Lanka were handed resounding defeats.  First England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs in Pallekele and then India were blown away by South Africa by a margin of 76 runs. 

Thanks to the big wins, South Africa and England have climbed to the no.1 spot in Group 1 and Group 2 of the Super Eights groups.

Here is a look at the top performers of the day:

1. Philp Salt (England): England experienced a rock start in their innings as they lost two wickets for 32 runs inside the Powerplay. However, opener Philip Salt rescued his side with a patient innings of 62 in 40 deliveries. His efforts helped England recover from early jitters and post a fighting total of 146/9 on the board. 

2. Will Jacks (England): Once England set the target of 147 for Sri Lanka, their spinners, particularly Will Jacks, played a crucial role. Jacks bowled a match-winning spell of 3/22 in 4 overs. Kusal Mendis, Pavan Rathnayake  and Dunith Wellalage were Jacks' victims victims and it broke the back of Sri Lanka's middle-order. 

3. David Miller (South Africa): None of South Africa's top-three batters scored over 10 runs. The Proteas were under pressure having lost 3 wickets for just 20 runs. It is at this stage, David Miller a crucial knock of 63 in 35 balls. Not only did Miller score runs at a brisk rate, he stitched two vital partnerships, first with Dewald Brevis and then with Tristian Stubbs. Thanks to Miller's work, South Africa got to a score of 187/7. 

4. Marco Jansen (South Africa): Marco Jansen picked 4 wickets.Early in the Indian innings the left-arm pacer accounted for the wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma. During the middle phase of the run-chase, he removed Shivam Dube and then to finish off the Indian innings he dismissed Jasprit Bumrah.
