Rohit Sharma Retires From Test Cricket Ahead Of England Tour Selection
Rohit Sharma, who has already retired from T20 Internationals, clarified that he would continue representing India in ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma, captain of India's One-Day International cricket team, on Wednesday announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect.
The 38-year-old's exit from the red-ball format of the game comes ahead of the selection for the upcoming tour to England.
"...I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in the whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years," he posted on social media platform Instagram.
Sharma, however, clarified that he would continue to "represent India in the ODI format". He had recently led the team to victory in Champions Trophy 2025.

Sharma's Test career spanned a total of 67 matches. He cumulatively scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, which included 18 half-centuries and 12 centuries. His highest score stood at 212.
Sharma had been struggling for form in the recent past, especially in the longer format. His recent performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia left critiques questioning his selection. He managed to score only 31 runs in five innings during the Test series, at an average of 6.2. He had sat out of the final game, with Jasprit Bumrah replacing him as the skipper for the match.
The announcement made by Sharma today means that he will now play only ODIs for India. He already announced his exit from the 20-over format, after India won the T20 World Cup under his captaincy last year.
This also shifts attention towards who would be leading India in the red-ball format going forward. The team is scheduled to play a five-match Test series in England, starting on June 20 in Headingley.
