Anand Rathi: India’s Power Generation Grew Marginally After Four Months Of Contraction

After four months of contraction, power generation turned marginally positive (0.1%) in July 2020, hydro grew in low teens, plant load factor for thermal crossed 50%.

As an early sign of growth revival, power generation (utilities) recorded 0.1% growth in July 2020 mainly due to strong growth in hydro-power generation.

Thermal, too, bounced back from a 29% contraction in April 2020 to a 2% contraction in July 2020. Nuclear, however, maintained a downward trajectory.

Compared to July 2019, the shares of the East and West in power generation improved, while that of the South declined. The share of state utilities declined and that of central improved.
