(Bloomberg) -- A proposed ban on the export of wild African elephants to zoos and circuses in countries such as the U.S. and China has been upheld by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna.
The proposal was passed after the European Union, which has 28 votes, reversed an initial decision to vote against the proposal in Geneva after winning the concession that African elephants could be exported beyond their natural range only “in exceptional circumstances,” the Fondation Franz Weber said in an emailed statement.
