Chemistry, Not Arithmetic, Will Determine 2019 Opposition Alliance, Says Trinamool’s Amit Mitra

Chemistry, Not Arithmetic, Will Determine 2019 Opposition Alliance, Says Trinamool’s Amit Mitra
Press Trust of India

“Chemistry” rather than “arithmetic” will be key in the creation of an opposition alliance to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2019 general election, said Trinamool Congress leader Amit Mitra, stressing that without trust electoral numbers mean nothing.

Mitra's party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is considered a key regional leader against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP. In the 2014 general elections, the Trinamool Congress won 34 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal.

Mitra, finance minister of West Bengal, said Banerjee has an impeccable personal and electoral record and she believes in “causes and not personal power”. She, he said, also enjoys the “trust” of leaders like Congress' Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and Janata Dal (Secular)'s HD Deve Gowda.

It is too early to talk about who is going to be PM and who is not. It is important to talk about the galaxy of important leaders in the country gelling because they see the central government has failed the people.
