JP Nadda Elected Unopposed As BJP President Replacing Amit Shah
JP Nadda was elected unopposed as BJP president after he emerged as the only leader in the fray for the top job at the party.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jagat Prakash Nadda has been elected unopposed as the party's national president, bringing to an end Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s five-and-a-half year tenure at the helm.
He was the only leader in the fray for the post following the nomination process where his candidature was endorsed by top BJP leaders.
Senior BJP leader Radha Mohan Singh, incharge of the party’s organisational election process, made the announcement at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
Outgoing president Amit Shah and other senior leaders congratulated the Himachal Pradesh leader, who had been serving as the party's working president. He will serve for three years at the helm.
Top party leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Home Minister Amit Shah, and party representatives from states filed nomination papers in Nadda's support.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nadda will hold a meeting with chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of party-ruled states on Monday evening.
