(Bloomberg) -- The University of Southern California said it has agreed to pay $215 million to female students who have accused a gynecologist at a student health center of sexually abusing patients for decades.
The settlement provides $2,500 for each student who received women's health services from Dr. George Tyndall and as much as $250,000 for former patients who provide further details about their experience and the impact it had on them, according to statements Friday from the university and Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP, the law firm representing the students.
"We hope that we can help our community move collectively toward reconciliation," Interim USC President Wanda Austin said in the university's statement. "I regret that any student ever felt uncomfortable, unsafe, or mistreated in any way as a result of the actions of a university employee."
