NFL Moves Titans Game to Later This Season After Covid Outbreak

The Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers game originally scheduled for Oct. 4 will now be played later this season following a Covid-19 outbreak among the Titans organization, according to a National Football League statement.

The NFL's plan to have the game rescheduled for either next Monday or Tuesday was scrapped after another Titans player and staff member tested positive for the virus, according to the NFL Network. Eleven members of the organization -- five players and six staff members -- have tested positive this week.

“The decision to postpone the game was made to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel,” the NFL said in a statement. “The Titans facility will remain closed and the team will continue to have no in-person activities until further notice.”

With just one bye week built into the schedule for each team, the league season is highly susceptible to disruption from any outbreaks. If multiple games were to be canceled, it would be forced to consider determining playoff eligibility with teams having played an unequal number of games or, potentially, by pushing back the Super Bowl, which is scheduled for Feb. 7 in Tampa, Florida.
