The U.S. test of McPlant began Nov. 3 in eight locations in Texas, Iowa, Louisiana and California. The plant-based burger has already debuted in parts of Europe, including Sweden, Denmark and the U.K.

Menu items that mimic the taste and feel of meat have become more commonplace on fast-food menus. Yum! Brands Inc.'s KFC restaurants are currently selling a limited-time offer of Beyond Fried Chicken, another product from Beyond Meat.
